‘Hinilawod and the Millennials: An Encounter’ @ Ateneo de Naga

Abstract

This presentation 1) maps the intellectual, cultural, literary, and artistic productions on the Panay-Visayan epic Hinilawod: Adventures of Humadapnon (Tarangban 1) chanted by the binukot Hugan-an to UP anthropologist F. Landa Jocano, and 2) showcases teaching strategies using Transformative Learning (TL) and Understanding by Design (UBD) in engaging with 21st-century students on the tradition and convention of the epic, the archetypes of male and female characters, and worldviews that can help provide insight in the art of human living both in the past and in the present as it pays attention to our universal literary influences and shared imagination.
