An Invitation to Teachers, Professors, and Scholars of Literature and Cultural Studies: The BNS Centenary Conference
The Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center of De La Salle University (DLSU) will hold Memory’s Fictions: The Bienvenido N. Santos Centenary Conference on the 20th of March 2012 (Tuesday), 9:00 am-4:20 p.m., at the Waldo Perfecto Seminar Room, SPS Building, DLSU-Manila.
This conference culminates the year-long birth centennial celebration of the Filipino-American writer whose short story collections (e.g. You Lovely People; Scent of Apples) and novels (e.g. Villa Magdalena; The Volcano; What the Hell for You Left Your Heart in San Francisco) serve as haunting portraits of the Filipino exiles in the US, and of humanity’s struggle to keep faith in a world of tenderness and defeats.
The Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Oscar Campomanes. The BNS Centenary Lecturer will be Dr. Isagani R. Cruz. The Panel on Transnational Themes in Philippine Literature is composed of: Dr. Charlie Veric, Dr. Francisco Benitez, and Dr. Jonathan Chua. The Panel on Reading, Teaching, and Adapting BNS is composed of: Prof. Vicente Garcia Groyon, Prof. Ferdinand Lopez, and Prof. John Iremil Teodoro.
There is no registration fee. Lunch will not be provided (our regrets). For inquiries or pre-registration, please email bnscwc@yahoo.com or call (632) 5244611 local 233.
