Summary
“Ang Nanay kong Ex-NPA” is about the search for truth and the question: “Now that you know who you are, what will you do with it?” Drawn from the 2010 award-winning novel Lumbay ng Dila by Genevieve L. Asenjo, this is the reunion-confrontation between Teresa, formerly known as Kumander Rafflesia of the Central Panay’s New People Army, who is now a big shot NGO worker, and her young professional daughter Sadyah Zapanta Lopez. The play takes off after Sadyah’s long years of “hunting” Teresa, after their “face time” at the mall, and opens in “the fierce urgency of now,” in the condo unit of Sadyah in Manila. Between remembering and making-sense, a secret is revealed. What really happened on the night of what was known as Guinsang-an Bridge Massacre in Antique that rendered Sadyah as an orphan? In their wound-healing, mother & daughter danced their way toward their respective found-life in mutual acceptance.
