I am teaching Hinilawod: Adventures of Humadapnon in Tarangban Cave 1 (Punlad Research House Incorporated, 2000), the 1957 account of Hugan-an, the binukot (kept-woman) of Panay Bukidnon in the hinterlands of Panay Island, as retold to and translated by the late anthropologist F. Landa Jocano.
This is the final creative output of one group of my students, their own synthesis and engagement with the printed version of the epic, their understanding — framed alongside contemporary issues and their personal contexts.
