TABOAN POETRY FEST- ILOILO 2012

In celebration of the National Arts Month this coming February 2012, the Literary Arts Committee of the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) will hold about ten literary activities in various parts of the country— including the Taboan Poetry Fest in Iloilo City.

The Taboan Poetry Fest will be held at the University of San Agustin Auditorium (2F, Urdaneta Hall) on February 10, Friday, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. It will feature readings and performances of selected poems written by West Visayan writers.

We would like to invite writers, literature teachers, students, artists groups, and cultural workers to attend the program, free of charge.

Palanca Hall of Fame awardee Dr. Leoncio P. Deriada will open the Poetry Fest with an overview of West Visayan poetry.

Noted poets in the program are Dr. Genevieve Asenjo, Dr. Alice Tan Gonzales, Dr. Erwin Sustento, Melchor Cichon, Melecio Turao, Norman Darap, Emmanuel Lerona, and Alex de los Santos. Marcel Milliam’s poems will be presented through video; senior poet Agustin Misola’s works will also be read.

One other highlight of the program will be a thirty-minute poetry-in-motion performance by the USA Little Theater, featuring poems by West Visayan writers currently living outside Panay, including those by John Iremil Teodoro, Edward Divinagracia, and Joseph Espino.

After the poetry program, we will host an informal gathering of writers, literature teachers, artists, and cultural workers from various cultural organizations, at the ground floor of Urdaneta Hall. This will include an “Open-Mike Poetry Jam” session.

Taboan Poetry Fest- Iloilo 2012 coordinator is Dr. Isidoro M. Cruz. For reservation and inquiries, please send an email to sid_cruz@yahoo.com, or call 3374841, local 233 (Dean’s Office, College of Arts and Sciences, University of San Agustin).
